This slept in my wishlist for far too long. Now that I’ve given it my full attention, I’ve devoured several play-throughs in a very short amount of time, and it felt like it got better with each go around. Don’t let this sleep in your wishlist either. You will be sad you waited, I promise.

Mourir have really brought their A-game to the dissonant black metal table with Disgrâce, being one of the French bands of the style that is more direct and energetic in approach instead of overly atmospheric, while nonetheless maintaining an immersive and threatening atmosphere throughout. This is also considerably heavier, if not more ferocious, than most current French BM. At this rate of development, Mourir are close to joining conversations of being real contenders. A band to watch!

Barely two years after their debut release 'Animal Bouffe Animal', Toulouse, France's MOURIR return with 'Disgrâce', a modern Black Metal tour-de-force.
This time written as a full band, this second full-length was recorded live and mixed by Amaury Sauvé at The Apiary Studio and mastered by Thibault Chaumont (Plebeian Grandstand, Birds In Row, The Phantom Carriage…).
Album opener "La Pluie, Le Torrent, La Boue, Le Vent, La Lave" immediately sets the tone, drowning the listener into crawling guitars and repulsive gargles before gradually growing to a majestic climax - paving the way for a galore of alienating, hypnotic riffs and hair-raising vocals ranging from commanding growls to skinned-alive screams.
From the slow-burning groove of 'De Pisse Et D'Orgueil' to the full-frontal assault of 'Bâtards Égarés', 'Disgrâce' shows a band that has mastered their own realm, strengthening their vision of Black Metal by maxing out every bit of their sound.

A veritable masterpiece in dissonance and aural disorientation. The angular, contorted pseudo-riffs truly beckon of Deathspell Omega (a comparison that I make with no other band), but this particular warped cacophony is otherwise inimitable.
