Nekobibu I don't actually know what I was expecting, but it's not what I was expecting anyway.
There's as much black metal here as there are other genres of extreme metal, all coated in shrapnel and controlled dissonance.
More importantly, it's great.

Traditionalists will try to convince you otherwise, but the true spirit of Black Metal has long broken free from many of its former conventions and embraced pushing the envelope considerably instead.

Hailing from Lyon, Michel Anoia are making their contribution to this diversified realm with a particularly turbulent interpretation of the genre.

'Nervures' is extremely jarring in a way, but driven by a furious energy that is usually rather found in genres like Grindcore or even chaotic Hardcore.

When ever the trio slows down to a more sludgy pace, things tend to get even more ugly and intense - and the tortured vocal performance throughout the album ensures that the intensity levels are always at peak.

So if you thought French Black Metal has run its course as far as new impulses goes, Michel Anoia will prove you wrong. 'Nervures' contributes an angle to the scene that must be heard and will be felt.
