When these guys rolled through my town, Obituary, Blood Incantation, and Immolation were playing a different venue the same night. I chose to go see Nightmarer because I just finished listening to this wonderful album and loved what I heard. My god did I not regret my decision. They are an S Teir live performance. DO NOT miss the chance to catch their set if it rears it’s beautiful dissonant head in your neck of the woods.

Ultime album de Serpent Column, Kathodos est une perle rare de black metal. Ce qui saute aux yeux, c'est le soin apporté à la dimension technique : Theophonos créé un ensemble d'une cohésion parfaite et utilise des jeux d'échos avec des riffs dévastateurs qui vont et reviennent de manière différente ("Kathodos"/"Anodos", première et septième pistes, etc.). Cet album est en somme un moyen de nous enfermer dans un palais des glaces sur lequel Theophonos tire à coups de boulets de canons. Insane !

Chez Brendan Sloan, la solitude écrasante n'est pas qu'une philosophie de vie : c'est une condition sine qua non de la création. Plus dissonant encore qu'Errata, Grievous est l'illustration du nom du groupe. Toute possibilité d'une tranquilité psychologique est menacée par une tempête de riffs convulsifs ("Inert"). Une vraie plaie à ciel ouvert. Aucune forme de pathos mais une douleur qui harcèle et détruit le cerveau. Mention spéciale à "No Dreaming" où Brendan à lui seul assure les chœurs.

Mirror in Darkness

Après la fureur du champ de bataille, les dieux des ténèbres s'apprêtent à emporter les victimes de la folie humaine au royaume des ombres : tel est le spectacle morbide que l'on peut voir sur la pochette du deuxième album de Serpent Column. Ornuthi Thalassa était déjà une œuvre folle ; Mirror in Darkness est une offrande au chaos. Plusieurs pistes pétrifient par leur tornade de violence, comme "Ausweg" ou "Amphiclasm" mais toutes sont très techniques avec une tension électrique. Éclatant !
