avg_nerd An incredible debut album from Convulsing. Each song is great, but my favourite has got to be Invocat. The drum intro, followed by the riffs is a prime example of the blackened death metal genre. It's immediately followed by the Sky Moves Sideways; an uneasy, atmospheric entry. It's a song I used to skip before I realised its importance in the album. The clean vocals at the start and its slower tempo juxtapose the the latter half of the song as well as the other songs in the album perfectly. Favorite track: Invocat.

fyeahmetal Given the volume of releases these days, it's hard for anything to rise to the level of "classic", but here's a candidate. 2016 is kind of an eternity ago, yet here's a 2023 re-release that's very much relevant today. You get the scratchy, fuzzy riffs of Portal via Morbid Angel, but updated with the atmospherics of Ulcerate and doom/post-metal. Space and dynamics abound, so the riffs hit hard. It's perfect that Total Dissonance Worship picked up this gem to spread it to the wider world. Favorite track: Severed Hemispheres.
