While I generally appreciate longer albums (all things being equal), Misanthropae’s latest takes mercy on us thanks to its brevity, as anything longer would have seared the skin off of our faces. Yes, this is as abrasive as the best grind out there but also exudes enough black metal darkness to keep things interesting and, I dare say, almost mysterious. The dissonance on display calls to mind the great works of France’s Standalone Complex, and I await what comes next! Favorite track: Depleted.

DeathSeeker This is a rush from the second you press play! Peaks, valleys the overflowing pits of darkness. It has it all, cassette is the perfect match. Keep the underground tapekvlt alive!

A blizzard blowing over a deserted coastal town comes to mind. Towering waves, as grey as the sky above them, battering the shoreline. Not a soul in sight.

'MMXXIII' is the soundtrack to that. The eruptive blast beats, the whirlwind riffage, the tortured howl in the background... it all paints an inhospitable picture of epic proportions.
